Book Description
Can Christians be pluralists? At a time when the categories we use to think about pluralism are sometimes more a barrier than an aid to a theological exploration of the social, political and religious differences among Christians, this remains an important question. Drawing largely on Isaiah Berlin's thought, and in conversation with a variety of contemporary theologians, such as Rowan Williams, Carl Braaten, Gavin D'Costa, and Alan Torrance, this study offers a substantive response to issues of social and religious diversity, conflict over value and beliefs, and tolerance.
About the Author
Michael Jinkins is Dean of the Faculty and Professor of Pastoral Theology, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books, including The Church Faces Death (1999), Invitation to Theology (2001) and The Character of Leadership (1998). Research for Christianity, Tolerance and Pluralism was funded by the Lilly Endowment through the Association of Theological Schools Faculty Grants program.
