本书不是“用于学习和必须记的大量结果的堆积而成”那种现象学的导论，它是作为一种方法，或者毋宁说是作为一种更巧妙的认识途径（approach）的那种现象学的导论。（“途径（Approach）”是一个较好的用语，因为它没有那种烹调书里可以简单照着作的规则的意味，但必要的时候也会使用“方法”（method）和“步骤”（precedure）。）要沿着现象学的途径工作，主要要求两件事情：（1）采取一种合适的态度，从根本上说是反思性的态度和纯理论性的态度，以及（2）从事那种可以称之为“分析”的活动。“分析”更全面地说意味着什么，到第六章的末尾就清楚了。
