Book Description
From 1895, the year he published his first signed article, to four days before his death in 1970 when he wrote his last, Bertrand Russell was a powerful force in the worlds of philosophy, mathematics, human rights and the struggle for peace. During those years he published 70 books, almost as many pamphlets and more than 2,000 articles. He also contributed pieces to some 200 books.
A Bibliography of Bertrand Russell has been compiled from the Bertrand Russell Archives at McMaster University which was the source for the volumes in The Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell series. Fully annotated, the bibliography is textually oriented and provides a guide to the authoritative editions of Russell's works. It includes references to the locations of known manuscripts for all the works cited, reports of all known speeches and interviews, and reproductions of the jackets of Russell's books. The three volumes of the bibliography are sold as a boxed set.
Review
"For the interested scholar and/or bibliophile, A Bibliography of Betrand Russell is the realization of a dream. Comprehensive, yet exact, authoritative, yet beautiful.... That the finished product is a massive success should come as little surprise, given that there could not have been a better choice of bibliographers.... With such exceptional scope in its coverage, this is an unusually enjoyable bibliography to browse through.... A Bibliography of Betrand Russel stands as a magnificent testimonial to just how much one worried, if effervescently brilliant, person can do, even in a world gone mad.." -- Canadian Philosophical Reviews
"If bibliographies were automobiles, this would be a Rolls Royce. What markes it for such elite status is the uncommon quality and thoroughness of its scholarship. The authors have created in this (exclusively primary) bibliography an authoritative and minutely detailed record of the public output of a figure who easily ranks among this century's five most prominent philosophers, and quite likely its most proligic, to say nothin of outspoken and controversial." -- American Reference Books Annual, 1996
"...a fine work of scholarship..." -- Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada, Fall 1996
"...magnificent... surely ranks among the finest scholarly bibliographies ever produced..." -- Times Higher Education Supplement, December 13 1996
