Author's Preface
The present work was presented as a doctoral thesis at the Institut Supérieur de Philosophie at the University of Louvain on 2 March 1962. It is the fruit of research undertaken in view of my teaching responsiblities first at Saint-Maximin, then at Le Saulchoir. The 1957-58 academic year spent at Louvain permitted me to study at the Institut Supérieur de Philosophie, to profit from the guidance of its professors, and to work at the Centre DeWulf-Mansion. I am particularly grateful to Canon Verbeke who generously accepted to make me the beneficiary of his guidance and advice, and to Canon Van Steenberghen, who agreed to include my publication in the series under his direction.
